Russia and Iran will take part in joint exercises and military training as part of an agreement signed in January.

Russian Defence Minister Sergei Shoigu signed an accord with his Iranian counterpart Hossein Dehghan that committed both nations to increased bilateral cooperation during a visit to Tehran.

The document covers "cooperation in peacekeeping, maintaining regional and international security and stability, and fighting against separatism and extremism", according to a statement from the Arab nation’s government

It is understood that more port calls by Russian and Iranian warships would be made, while the Iranian diplomat hinted at increased unity between the countries’ against common adversaries. "The importance of the need to develop Russia and Iran’s cooperation in the joint struggle against meddling in the affairs of the region by external forces that are not part of it was framed," Dehgan said.
