UK MoD space investment

The Ministry of Defence has put £1 million into the production of a deployable satellite antenna to be developed in the UK. A ‘wrapped rib’ design makes it lighter and easier to transport into space, and the antenna will be used to provide fine resolution Low Earth Orbit Synthetic Aperture Radar imagery.

“I have been clear that we need to accelerate the development of new, innovative capabilities - especially those in the space domain,” said defence secretary Gavin Williamson. “It is vital that we have homegrown affordable technologies like this pioneering deployable satellite antenna to maintain a commanding military advantage over our adversaries and competitors.”
