STEYR MOTORS GmbH - Innovation with lightness

STEYR MOTORS GmbH is the specialist for diesel engines out of the earlier Steyr-Daimler-Puch group of companies. The company has a worldwide reputation of being an innovative manufacturer of high performance diesel and hybrid engines.

The Austrian engineering specialist provides strong solutions for use at land and sea; i.e. for the marine industry, special (land) vehicles or for industrial use. The product range includes diesel and diesel-electric engines, aggregates as well as highly-specialised engineering services for specific requirements.

The products of STEYR MOTORS are highly specialised with regards to operational safety, environmental protection, power density and cost effectiveness.

MONOBLOCK DIESEL for reliable, high-power engineering

Decades of engineering and production of diesel engines for all kind of commercial and military vehicles resulted in the development of the STEYR M1 ("Monoblock") engine family. The STEYR MONOBLOCK engine family consists of a number of design solutions that are the key for highest power density, reliability and safety in operation under all operational profiles and environments. Due to the exceptional robust cooling behaviour and the reliable operation even with poor fuel qualities the engines achieved a unique image with vehicle manufacturers and operators around the world.

The STEYR MONOBLOCK is a highly efficient single casting from special tensile alloy. The design shows a 'free liner', with a uniform and most effective cooling jacket, valve seats from 'Stellit' material and inserted valve guides. Due to the fact that the design is free from high torque cylinder head bolts and cylinder head gasket there is no deformation to the roundness of the cylinders and no extra stress from different temperature levels.

Just a MONOBLOCK design offers an unlimited flow of cooling water and provides a uniform and effective cooling in the most critical upper section of the cylinder liner, while conventional cylinder block/cylinder head designs always result in 'hot spots', extra stress due to different temperature levels and cylinder head bolts.

When high demands evolve into high performance

Durability, safety and robust cooling behaviour were the main guidelines that led to the current unrivalled product range of compact high-speed diesels.

Besides the engineering services for customised products, the portfolio includes diesel as well as diesel-electric engines and aggregates - starting from a new single cylinder engine at 12kW mechanical output, followed by a new horizontal twin cylinder at 40kW and extending to the reliable 4- and 6-cylinder engine series from 95kW to 225kW mechanical output.

Where tradition meets innovation

STEYR MOTORS GmbH originated from the former Steyr-Daimler-Puch group and was founded as an entirely independent company through a management buyout in 2001. This enabled an even stronger focus on engineering based on the knowledge of more than 150 years of history.

In September 2012, Phoenix Tree HSC Investment Co. Ltd. (based in Wuhan, China) took over 100% of the shares of STEYR MOTORS GmbH. This has been a fundamental step for the new owner as the Chinese market has already been one of the top export markets of STEYR MOTORS due to the well-known quality of the Austrian engines.

Moreover, the Chinese investment group decided to further broaden the product range of STEYR MOTORS to become even more competitive for the global market. Several new development projects have been started in 2013 and 2014 - leading to trailblazing new products being introduced to the market within the next 18 months.

A further milestone was the huge investment in the expansion of the Austrian facilities to double the company's premises and capacities. The newly extended engineering headquarters in Steyr guarantees a secure and innovative look into the company's future.
