Teijin Aramid introduces Woven Matrix concept to simplify production of ballistic protection solutions

The Woven Matrix concept enables the binding resin to be incorporated during the weaving step, thereby circumventing the additional pre-pregging step. This important breakthrough means that weavers without pre-pregging capabilities can produce high-strength protective fabrics with a resin for developing ballistic resistance in various protective equipment. In this way, Teijin Aramid’s solution enables fabrics to be supplied in regions where pre-pregging is not available.

The key advantages of the Woven Matrix concept include:
- Enables the binding resin to be incorporated during the weaving step
- Increased flexibility regarding fabric weight and width as well as resin content, including double-siding
- Enables better shaping, as the matrix is bound to the fabric
- Fabrics can be stored at room temperature, without specific cooling conditions
- Products remain stable during storage and transportation
- Improved drapeability versus regular prepreg materials
- Solvent-free thermoplastic with a lower health and environmental impact
